Pink Floyd formed in Cambridge, England in 1965 and is regarded as one of the greatest bands in rock and roll history. The progressive band got its start by performing covers of American R&B songs, and it was vocalist Syd Barrett who moved the group into psychedelic rock. Surreal lyrics and experimental keyboard sounds mark the signature sound of Pink Floyd, with its 1967 debut album The Piper at the Gates of Dawn. The band released its epic rock opera album The Wall in 1979, spending 15 weeks at No. 1 on the U.S. charts.
